(the one with short hair)

ALLLLrighty. I feel your pain, I had horrible poofy hair that I didn't know what to do with growing up. So, here we go. I don't know what hair tools you have, so I'll tell you techniques with both a straightener, and a curling iron.

Straightener:

Clip hair up, leaving a small horizontal strip at the nape of the neck. Take straightener, clamp onto the strip of hair, move your wrist/hand towards your forearm, and pull the whole straightener towards the ceiling. This creates volume. Keep working in little horizontal strips, all the way up the back of your hair, until you reach your crown. Then do the same thing on the left side, then the right. When you reach the top of your hair (bangs excluded), start at the back of the crown, and work your way to the front of your head. Take the straightener, just like you did for the back and sides, and push it to the ceiling, then right before you reach the end of your hair, turn your wrist, so it just slightly curles under. It will probably take you 30-40 minutes the first time, but with practice, it should only take 15-20 minutes from start to finish. When finished, your hair will have life, volume, and everytime you run your fingers through it, it re-shapes it, looking like you just did it, all day.

You can do the same technique that I just discussed with the curling iron, it'll just be a bit more curly.

Curling Iron:

Clip hair up, leaving a 2in horizontal strip at the nape of your neck. Take that strip, divide it up into little vertical strips. (I usually just divide as I go...saves on rubber bands...) Take that peice of hair, clamp the hair at the root, then sweep the curling iron over the hair, stop before you reach the end, and curl it inward, creating a vertical curl. NOW, it's ok, you will not look like Shirley Temple, unless you want to.
A few secrets to curling hair:
the longer you let the curl sit on the hot curling iron, the more "defined" your curl will be
the more spaced out the curl is on the iron, the more spaced out the curl is when you let it go
What this means is if you want loose bouncy curls, only leave the iron on your hair for 5-10-20 seconds, and space the hair out on the iron. If you leave it on longer with the hair on the iron closer the more tight, rigid the curls.
Continue to do every section up the back, then the left, then the right, and of course up top! This is a little rushed, and long winded, email me if you have a question.

PS. to answer another question you had. Just dye your hair without your mother's permission. She might ground you, but it's permanent, she can't take it back. I'm bad though. ;)
